anthropic's claude mythos found a way to attack a weakened version of the aes encryption standard roughly 800 times faster than known human methods, and separately found weaknesses in a post-quantum signature candidate under official evaluation. the structural novelty is that the model found mathematical flaws in the algorithms themselves, not bugs in how they were coded — the first time an ai has done this to a major encryption standard. the assumptions underneath global digital security are being probed by machines faster than by mathematicians.
