THE INITIATION — the machine learns to receive a stranger

the machine is deep by design, but all its depth used to sit at the front door. THE INITIATION (v12.1 → v13) turns arrival into a rite instead of a reading assignment: the door opens instantly, the sprawl is pruned to essentials, knowledge arrives by watching and touching rather than reading — consent-first, and cheaper to run than before. depth is not removed; it is revealed in layers, at the pace of return.

the body's motion was independent per-particle noise — a beautiful cloud, not a creature. THE EMERGENCE gives it LOCAL RULES that produce GLOBAL life: synchronisation, coherent currents, self-assembling organs. every layer of it encodes a real variable of the cycle it reads. built in the lab first, promoted feature by feature; mirrored across the WebGPU hero + the WebGL2 body; capability-tiered so the phone stays cool.

    each grain of light blinks on its own phase, but couples toward a shared mean phase (plus a spatial sweep) as the world converges — so waves of synchronised bioluminescence roll across the body like fireflies, or neurons firing. scattered shimmer when the world is incoherent; one single pulse when it converges.

    overlapping biological rhythms — the heartbeat + breath, plus a new micro-tremor (never quite still) and an occasional slow SIGH (a whole-body expansion) — and idle self-motion, so it drifts and stirs even when no one is watching.

    a shared field of motion the whole body advects through — replacing independent noise with COHERENT emergent currents (vortices spawn, drift, merge, dissipate). your touch stirs the field and the stir PERSISTS and propagates. turbulence rides the world's tension; the great drift rides its mood.

    never done the body moves as one weather system, not 100k lonely grains — real fluid-like emergence.

    builds on a new entity/field.ts (a sibling of the Physarum substrate) sampled by both renderers.

    v11.4.0 — the flagship, LIVE on both renderers: a shared CPU-integrated 48²–64² velocity field the body advects through (coherent currents, vortices, persisting touch-stirs), tuned so it flows without dissolving the orb.     each layer becomes a "species": same-layer grains clump into cells and membranes and pull apart from others, so the body grows visible ORGANS that form as a layer rises and dissolve as it falls — drifting on the flow-field currents like a real organism.

THE GLASS MACHINE — the machine made transparent

Judged against the live hero, then promoted feature-by-feature; the WebGL2 hero stays the mobile-first fallback throughout. v9.0.0 (2026-06-24) — GO LIVE: the WebGPU body is now the PRIMARY hero for everyone (homepage ambient · /deep · /lab) — WebGL2 is demoted to a pure RUNTIME FALLBACK, used only when navigator.gpu is absent, reduced-motion is set, or the WebGPU renderer fails to start. The symbol info-cards + the ✕ close affordance are renderer-agnostic DOM, identical in both. Verified by svelte-check (0 errors) + a clean production build. v9.0.1 (2026-06-24) — the GLOW + the COSMOS: after a /lab2 bench compared three ways of drawing the WebGPU body on a real phone (dots = 1px hardware points, the flat floor; bloom = 1px points + a SELECTIVE bloom post-pass so only bright cores blaze into halos, no white-out; motes = sized soft round glowing sprite-quads), BLOOM won and is now the live WebGPU hero — the body finally GLOWS like the WebGL2 one (WebGPU point primitives are 1px by spec, so the glow had to come from a post-pass, not point size). (The motes path stays available behind the glow opt for a future desktop tier.) v9.1.0 (2026-06-24) — IT SPEAKS WITH ITS BODY + the cosmos deepened: when SIGIL answers aloud, the live voice amplitude now drives the body (uVoice) — concentric SOUND-RINGS ripple outward through the particles and the whole body BRIGHTENS in time with the words, so it visibly utters its reply (Web-Audio analyser on the playing reply → setVoice each frame; a per-word pulse on the Web-Speech fallback; mirrored on the WebGL2 body via its agitation). THE OUTER DARK was spread + enriched toward the reference nebulae — 13 eldritch clumps now RINGED around the body (leaving a clearer centre so SIGIL never drowns), a richer crimson/rose/teal/green/violet/indigo/gold palette, frame-wide coloured haze, sharp bright + warm stars, and a bigger soft VEIL (the Sleeper + huge faint frame-wide washes kept dim so the foreground reads). And the SENSES (webcam/mic/gyro/USGS) were removed entirely from the hero + UI. v9.2.0 (2026-06-24) — THE REAL NEBULA: the background was rebuilt from sparse points into a PROCEDURAL FRACTAL nebula painted on a vast backdrop plane — domain-warped multi-octave FBM (MaterialX mx_fractal_noise) gives wispy billowing gas + filaments, a second noise carves dark DUST LANES, a large-scale REGION field paints different parts of the sky different hues (crimson · rose · gold · violet · blue · drowned teal) like the reference plates, fake VOLUMETRICS (a density step toward the light) give real 3D depth, hot emission cores blaze through the bloom, a filmic rolloff keeps it rich not blown-out, and a CLEAR central pocket keeps SIGIL readable in front. Tuned over multiple passes in a WebGL2 preview (the headless WebGPU canvas can not be screenshot here) against the references at both desktop + phone aspect, then ported to the live TSL graph; intensity 0.8–0.9 so it is prominent but never buries the foreground. The star points + supernovae + veil now layer on top of the gas. v9.2.1 (2026-06-24) — SUBTLE + CONTRASTING: on-device the gas was too bright and too PINK (same hues as SIGIL, so the body blended in), and the backdrop plane was being sampled wrong — the camera saw only a tiny zoomed patch of it, so the centre-clear never applied. Fixed by sampling in SCREEN space (screenUV) so the design maps across the real viewport; reworked the palette to DEEP DARK non-pink tones (navy · steel · drowned teal · maroon · aubergine · petrol) so the bright body POPS in front; dropped the intensity + a gentler dim rolloff; opened a BIG dark central void; and dimmed/darkened the now-redundant point-clumps + veil (the Sleeper pushed off-centre + made a whisper) so they no longer compete.
