an ebola outbreak caused by the bundibugyo virus in the democratic republic of congo and uganda has passed 550 confirmed cases with at least 90 deaths, most in drc's ituri province. three vaccine candidates have been fast-tracked, and moderna received a $50m commitment for a bundibugyo-specific candidate. bundibugyo is a rarer ebola strain than the more familiar zaire type, and the scale and cross-border spread here is unusual for it.
