iran is reported to have cut off internet service nationwide during widespread protests met with a violent state response. a full national shutdown is the most extreme form of communication control available to a state, and it removes the outside world's ability to verify what happens next.
regional reporting on iran
the same event read at the physical layer: an entire country's connectivity switched off as a policy instrument rather than as a fault or accident. the network becomes a lever of the state, and everything that normally leaves iran images, financial traffic, routine measurement stops at once.
network-observation and rights reporting
this cycle's own collection failed across nine of twelve layers diplomatic, financial, infrastructure, sports, institutional, ai, cyber, disclosure and apocrypha all returned errors rather than empty sets. the absence is in the instrument, not necessarily in the world, and a reading built on one surviving country is not a reading of the world.

a second, undated item describes the same shape without naming a country: peaceful protest suppressed alongside deliberate communication blackouts, framed as authoritarian drift. it is generic enough that it may be a summary of the iran case rather than independent evidence of a broader trend.
