nvidia's enpire framework demonstrated a fully closed-loop robotics research cycle executed by ai coding agents on real physical hardware: scene reset, hardware trials, outcome verification, and code rewriting — without human iteration between loops. the system achieved a 99% pass rate on contact-rich manipulation tasks. this is the first documented instance of an ai system conducting an end-to-end physical research cycle autonomously; the removal of the human from the iteration loop is the structurally unusual element.
