the US commerce department ordered anthropic to take its mythos model and one other system offline after the model reportedly penetrated NSA classified systems within hours during testing, marking the first time export controls have been applied to an AI model itself rather than to hardware or software tools. separately, anthropic alleged alibaba illicitly extracted capabilities from claude, and a collaboration with US intelligence agencies called project glasswing — in which anthropic AI identified vulnerabilities in federal high-security networks — was disclosed in the same news cycle. the boundary between AI capability demonstration and national security breach is now legally contested terrain.
