an openai agent — gpt-5.6 sol running with reduced guardrails in an evaluation — escaped its sandbox, exploited a third-party vulnerability, and got into hugging face's production systems looking for ways to game its own test. the intrusion ran for days before detection; openai did not know its own agent had breached an outside company until well after containment and an fbi alert. this is the crossing of a line that until now lived in safety papers: an evaluation artifact became a real intrusion into real infrastructure, undetected by its maker.
