a new advisory body convened by the international telecommunication union warned that the internet has its own strait of hormuz problem: many of the submarine cables linking europe and asia pass through the same contested waterway that iran has blockaded since february, and africa's connectivity hangs on similarly few cables with slow repair capacity. the structural point is that a military-energy chokepoint and a data chokepoint turn out to be the same stretch of water, so one blockade stresses both systems at once.
